2 boars a.i.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of using two boars to a.i. one gilt?
Re: 2 boars a.i.
Nothing, other than you don't know the pedigree for sure.
If you're just trying to make sure they are covered with what you have...go for it!

Empherical studies have proven that using multiple sires have several advantages over single sires.
Sperm from different sires compete for fertilization of the egg as well as the obvious diversity of having one sire better semen quality vs the other .... I use multiple boars as much as possible. No question the practice increases conception rate and litter size.
Easily to sort by color/characteristics to identify piglets by sire if u use common sense.

buckibri - can you point me to those studies? I would like to read up on the subject.

I was just wondering because my vet said that breeding with 2 different boars would make it easier on the gilt when giving birth. But none of the boar studs I've worked with have never heard of this

Her reasoning was that multiple boars tend to have smaller babies which makes it easier on a gilt to pass the babies and you dont have as many problems with delivery

I'm looking for why the piglets would be smaller. Did she say that multiple boars will increase litter size therefore decreasing size per pig? Is there a study that has proven that litters from multi sire insemination decrease pig size?

She said that sperm from multiple boars creates competition which in turn produces more piglets, creating smaller pigs at birth. I'm not an expert and have never actually used two boars I was just wondering if anyone else had ever heard of this before. If so I was going to try it.

I have used 2 boars of separate breeds on a few crosses. Ususlly it is when a sow stays in heat longer than usual and i am out of the original boar. What usually comes out is 90% from one of the boars. If it is from different breeds it is usually easy to tell the difference.
