Guilt overdue

Post by Pokie1430 » Sat Mar 23, 2019 7:09 pm

I have a guilt that was due 3/19 or 3/20 so now its 3/23 and she hasn't farrowed. She started getting her milk in last friday 3/15. Now her udder is completely full but she hasn't dialated much and is overdue by 3 days. Her sister was pregnant back in july of 2018 and I induced her however she didn't take well to the drug and ended up passing them all dead. So moral of the story is I'm not sure to induce this pig or not. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

what drug did you use to induce? Can you feel piglets moving?

I have used estrumate and had really good success...so good I couldn't tell if it was the meds or natural. I give one dose at 24 hours before desired farrow and another at 12 hours. When I've used it I have seen farrowing at 24 hours after the first dose.

When inducing make sure you check, check again and then recheck breeding dates. If you used Lut or Estrumate correctly I would say that the drug was not the cause of the dead litter. If you induce any litter born before 110 days the pigs are not viable.

I used lutalyse to induce her sister, that's what was reccomended by my vet. I talked to some other people that raise berkshires and they said wait her out. She's just in the last 2 days started to dialate she's now 6 days past her due date. I'm 100 percent sure about her due date. I have never been able to feel the babies and I'm usually pretty good at feeling them, however she is a big pig probably 500 lbs big for a guilt i know but we had problems with our boar. I pregtoned her and she tested positive, stopped testing positive after about 70 days which is normal so i know they're in there i just hope alive

We raise Berkshires too, and most of my gilts actually farrow late. I don't think it's uncommon for gilts to go late. Last year, I had a few who farrowed 5-7 days late. They delivered healthy babies just fine. Nerve-racking for me as I like to be there with them, but the pigs are on their own time. :) I just wait them out. As long as they don't look like they're in active labor or straining, I leave them alone.

Yup I think thats what I've decided to do just wait on her :) she's not uncomfortable, very happy, I did reduce her feed to a little more than half though thats what some other people had reccomended I do.
