I have a gilt that had a litter this past Sunday. We pulled 4 alive. We could feel another but not get it to canal. I have been treating her with 8 cc of Pen G a day and Bannamine twice. She was acting sluggish but moving and drinking wouldn't eat. By Tuesday she had passed 3 more. Now she is laying and won't get up. She has diarrhea that is a mucus looking dark green. She is still grunting when you come in barn and tries to get up but can't. I am wondering what to do now she has been on Pen G since Monday. Please help we don't want to loose this gilt. Any help would be appreciated we are running out of time I feel. Thank You

If you are going to give Pen ( a more broad spectrum antibiotic would be better) you should be giving her 3 times more than what you are. Also Dex would help with the swelling. Did you give her some Oxytocin to help clean her out?

My vet had told me 8 cc of Pen. We also gave oxy for 2 days every 5 hrs. This is the first time we have had this problem. Thank you for your help we lost the gilt the day I made this post. Got 2 gilts and a boar out of it all.

I am also curious as to what would cause a litter to be so inconsistent. We had 4 normal size piglets and the others were like double the size of first four. I am just looking for any reason and to prevent it if possible. Thanks in advance.

I'm sorry I missed your question. I hope everything turned out ok for you and her. I don't come around to the forum very often and usually only when someone happens to tell me i should. All our customers have access to my personal cell number and a text is the best way to ask me something. I'll always answer. I even did when I was in the middle of chemo.
