Right Choice LVS or other York boar

Post by durockid » Sun Oct 18, 2009 9:23 pm

Anyone seen Right Choice and what do you think? My young brother has a york gilt (Timepiece x Anchor). Nice looking gilt. Like to add bigger bone and muscle. She has great underline and moves great. This is his first breeding experience, like to see good pigs. I'm a Duroc fan so haven't spent much time looking at the York breed.

my outcross gilt that i have is narrow than her mother and has like no rib shape and need loads more bone. i am not happy with this gilt at all. i have a woody gilt that is wide and loads of shape and is sound. she is out of the same sow as the outcross gilt. woody didnt add any frame tho, but that is what outcross added was frame and took away everything else.

so my top 2 yorks at lvs are better yet and woody

Hedgepost @ Hipoint. He will mass them up in a correct package and bone will not be an issue. In addition, he is bred right and from a breeder that knows yorks as good as anybody. His picture does not do him justice. I also like Tighty Whitey at Mauck showpigs in Indiana. Seems to be doing them a great job. I buy some pure yorks from Kevin Ricker in Ohio. He is the one who raised Timepiece and i saw some Hedgepost pigs there back on some Timepiece daughters and i thought they were damn good and probably ahead of there time. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

If it were me, rather than use Right Choice at LVS I would go right to the source and get semen from Jim Grimm. He has several excellent choices and can help you choose what will work best for you.
