Deadfish

Post by goose80 » Mon Dec 28, 2009 12:18 am

I was wondering if anyone has had any pigs out of him yet, if so what are they like. We put him on a pretty good Immortal 60-1 sow that has always raised very good pigs for us. We wern't overly impressed with him when we saw him in person, but they were just getting him started and it was pretty hot, just wondering what to expect.

He's heavy boned but built like a tube.

had a great litter sired by him. had an extremely heavy muscled immortal 76-3 sow and matched up great. i got his look and design and the power came from the sow side.

I'm with Galion. I saw the boar the end of March a few weeks after the show. Either he had been off feed for a while or the breeders did a masterful job of feeding him. Like Galion said, he was a tube with big feet and legs. After seeing him, I sure wouldn't have paid what they were wanting on him. I will take a wait and see approach on him, especially at that price.

I will be the first to agree, like I said when we saw him in June we wern't very impressed with him. We had an order booked already and decided to breed another sow last minute, we called on collection day and got him on overrun, we really got him less than half price. Yeah I sure wouldn't pay full price on this boar , not until he is proven and probably not then either, but we needed another boar and we do like his genetics so we gave him a shot. We should have a litter out of him around Jan. 5th so I guess we'll see what happens. I'll let you know how they turn out.

Sorry it took so long to post an update, the pigs are about a month old and the jury is still out on them. They are really heavy boned and have some muscle but just not sure if they are going to make showpigs. We have a Roper litter born the same day that are blowing the Deadfish pigs out of the water. Have about 15 litters on the ground so far and the Deadfish pigs are probably at the bottom of the list for finding a great one, or even a really good one.

So is his littermate Intoxicated just as disappointing or did Shaffers make a good buy? I have a couple litters by Intoxicated and they look ok so far, kind of early for me to say much yet.
