Recovery

What can you tell me about this boar? Who has seen him, who has used him or shown pigs by him, and how has he been siring thus far?

Extremely heavy boned, big footed, and heavy skulled. I thought he had enough muscle for a negative and had a huge stifle and hip laid into him. Good rib shape and center cavity to him as well, although he needs protected on width of skeleton. He is not a small boar by any means, but where he is good at, he is damn good. I've liked several of his offspring, especially Hammer Down at Top Cut, who I thought was one of the best boars at the Crossbred Classic this past year. I bred a sow that has always thrown my best crossbred females in hopes of getting another good one out of her before she moves on. She is due tomorrow.

Darin, Look on Jim Grimm's site. He purchased a crossbred boar sired by Recovery. That should let you know a little about the boar. Just trying to help.

Thanks guys.

YD, how about his hip. Only looking at photos, he looks pretty steep. I'd like to crank his tail up a few notches. Is it just the pics?

I talked to Jim about his son (Legend) and he likes him better than anything he saw at the Indy crossbred classic. I guess time will tell the story, but if you had to choose between Legend, Recovery and Hammer Down, which would you take?

I guess at this time Recovery. Hard choice cause if Jim bought Legend, there has to be something there. You know you cant feed soundness, Being in Jim's stud; I'd say Legend has to be sound. Hard choice!!!!

I would say Recovery is more proven at this point anyways.
Champion overall at the Denver show last week was a Recovery pig that Mareks raised. Also reserve Grand at Iowa and Grand at Kansas last year were out of Recovery.

I have seen recovery twice. I was not that impressed the first time I saw him. He was young and Dustin said he had been sick and off feed. We did not use him based on that visit (big mistake). In the past year, I have seen enough good Recovery pigs to realize there is a lot of genetic potential in that hog. When we seen him late this fall, he looked great. Maybe not as naturally wide based as he needs to be, however, the rest is REAL good. Best of all, he has worked at a lot of different places. Our goal is to use him extensively for July and August pigs.

Who owns Recovery? I guess the better question to ask is where can one go to see a picture of him?

I was at brinnings when he still had him in his show barn behind his house, and he weighed about 260. he was very blowed apart in a very complete package. if i could fix him anywhere, i would pick his tail head up a tick. Shane called him recovery then and i asked why? he said that he was going to recover all thise bulldog fronted boars\showpigs that had the width but wasnt correct. i have to agree the boar is pretty darn complete. Shane also stated that Mike Clay had just left minutes before our arrival and offered him 75,000 for him and he told me he said he#* no. he said i spent 40.000 on semen last month why would i sale this guy. very good powerful boar in a sound complete package

Pigjock, do you mean he SOLD 40K worth of semen last month? If so, wow! Not bad....

Also- Did you see Snow Monkey? If so what did you think of him. Heard lots of good things about his pigs.

i did not see snow monkey. i brought some weanling pigs back to georgia in october out of him back on a alias 106-2 X alias sow that were packed full of meat and very wide. Very level design, square hipped and impecable through ther front one third. These pigs will show next month at our state fair. i hear you have to take him to some body, but know he is doing a great job. Brinning raised champion barrow at the iowa state fair and he said he was the best pig ever raised there and that is pretty bold statement, but i would agree. The barrow was a snow monkey. Great young sire with some of the best exotic genetics to back it up. I know for a fact that all the guys there in keota iowa bred a lot of sows to him last year.

Snow Monkey needs to be taken to a moderate framed, big ribbed females with good depth of body. He will open them up underneath, put in flat bone and big feet, and lay in a stout but attractive skull. Like many other Space Monkey sons, if you take them to too much frame they tend to get tall and flat in their rib shape.
