Darin you are right again myfriend. one day people will learn and then thats when they will be successful. I am sure powerhouse will work on some sows but there is more out there that he will not work on. ALL breeders use boars that are PROVEN or PROVEN to fix the things that need to be fixed on there sows, but this topic is about powerhouse who has some good traits to offer but in my opinion and obviously others his offspring are not whats burning the showring up. the pigs tend to be a little too compact and are not functional, problem free hogs. The genetics is there but not in all cases does that breed on. Again, dont know your sows but if i were to breed to him i would take him to a pure york that is big in her kind, functional and definetly sound on all four. And for dick i am sure he is a great guy, but he does have a tendency to lead you a little to far.

pigjock if its all about the PROVEN genetics then why is it that every time a new boar comes out everyone is wanting to breed him and not THE PROVEN . everyone hops on the new boars and the boars you refer to as the PROVEN ones drop in semen sales . there is no way to prove that the new boars are any better then the PROVEN ones , so why not stick with the PROVEN ones then if thats the case and wouldnt it make more since then going with the flow of everyone else .

woody89 you go out and breed to a boar that is not proven and that has no proven genetics (so in other words genetics that no one has ever heard of) and win at a major level and i will agree with you.

This is stuff Mclemore, Cobb, Marek, Brinning, Olsen, RW and the list continues (without you and me) does. they create genetics that are unheard of then becomes proven. And yes new boars that semen sells are out the roof has the proven genetics to back it up. Just because they are new sires dont increase semen sells. Its becuse there genetics ARE proven and they are offsring of the Proven that increases sells. Powerhouse genetics are proven but i just dont see many positve traits that are increasing his sales. And obviously other people feel the same because there are not a pile of his offspring out there. Atleast hilltops Powerhouse. My opinion of Powerhouse is like a butt hole everyone has one, but genetics that are proven are proven and that is proven. No one is telling you not to use him, they offer their advice and tell you how to find out what his pigs are doing.

Txhogguy, that makes 2 county champions plus my gilt out of that litter from Carl. I didn't buy her to show. she was bought for her bloodlines, and I let a friend of mine show it.

For the record, I did not intend to "bash" Dick or Shane with my comments. I was just repeating what I recalled Dick telling me during my visit and trying to help the original poster with his question. The other post was just a wisecrack, no harm intended.

I appears that he also stretches the bone of his hogs too, via photoshop.
