Superfreak pigs

Post by Angeleyes » Thu Feb 11, 2010 11:40 am

I'd like to hear from anyone who has raised litters of Superfreak pigs. I've got a litter that are three weeks old. While they are out of a gilt, and she did develop an infection about 10 days post-delivery but was treated with Pennicilan, they seem to be slow starters. I have no history with their mom since she's a gilt and all, and of course did have a bit of a problem. The piglets also scoured a bit at two weeks of age but got that cleared up pretty quick. They are less than half the size of my Roadtrip pigs that are only three days older. They seem slow to want to eat starter feed, and I'm contemplating leaving them on their mother for an extra week just to try and get them going better before weaning. What's everybody elses experience with Superfreak pigs?

Just weaned a litter at 3 weeks of age, mainly because they were bigger than any of my pigs that were 4 weeks old. We usually wean at 4 weeks but these pigs were huge.
They were out of a litter of 7, and a sow. Which does make a big difference. Sows will always wean heavier pigs then gilts.
This is my first litter of Superfreaks and I will be using him again. Best litter in the barn.

We have a litter of 13 Superfreak pigs that were born December 26. They are growing well and look great.

I'm glad to hear the positive comments; it's what I had hoped and somewhat expected to hear. I forget to mention in my original post that she had 11 pigs born (most of which seemed to be quite big pigs at birth) and is still nursing 11.

Big, even litters at birth, have continued to grow. They will inevitably slow down compared to my other pigs without exotic blood, but I don't see him throwing pigs that will have birthdays.
