Has anyone done this? How will the pigs be marked?

Most likely will get a white or red roaned marked hog with floater or down ears. If it is a red carrier blue boar, you could get some solid reds.

I bred our Duroc to bright light at LVS. About half the pigs came out blue. Ears were semi-erect

Have bred purebduroc sows to grey belted boars a few times.

Typical color pattern:

1/3 bLack belts
1/3 grey belts
1/3 orange belts

The blue color in hogs originally came from Duroc. All blue hogs have a red gene. You will get red or blue either one on babies.

not so sure about that, i have a blue that doesn't throw reds. cross a hamp and york and you get blue butts, really faded black, cross that back to a hamp and you can get blues with no red gene.

Not sure if you mean "all blue hogs" or "hogs that are all blue". If you mean the latter, you are correct that there needs to be some Duroc to get the blue over the whole body and not just splashed on the back half of the body. However as Springbranch commented, you get blue-butts by simply crossing pure hamp with pure york.

I have yet to see a blue colored hog anywhere but have seen ample gray colored hogs.

Would love to see someone combine black and white and come up with blue.

Yes. I should have specified. With all the talk about blue belts and predominately blue hogs in the post, that is what i meant. SPRINGBRANCH is correct about "blue butts" as well. Should have been more clear.

so if i have a black gilt which is half duroc and breed to reg. york i possible could get all blue pigs?

Or do i need to be using a bluee butt boar to get a few solid blue (gray).?

My guess is that you'll get mostly white, but with today's showpig "yorks", who knows?

If your target is getting pigs which are covered in blue-roan, I'd breed her with a blue-roan boar. You'll likely get some black and white, and some goofy colored ones, but you may also get some blues.
