red delted sire

Post by mict71 » Tue Aug 23, 2016 12:47 pm

My daughter has a good red belted gilt that is moderate sized and very wide with good muscle, but the muscle tone is very soft. What she is looking for is a boar that will firm up the muscle tone and carry enough of the red gene to make a majority of the litter red belted. Is there a boar out there that will do that? We are thinking Rusty nuts, but were wondering if there would be anything else that would make high quality red belted show pigs. Thankyou for what ever help we could get.

I would recommend Rusty Nuts, we used him on a similar type gilt you described and were real pleased with his pigs. Our gilt was red calico and all 8 came out red calico. We did use Red U Mental on a black (red carrier) sow, all the pigs came out black belted not red but they are a stout set of pigs, he would be my 2nd choice.

Thankyou for your input. That is the order I think I am going to go.
