Boar Suggestion

Post by todd1279 » Mon Feb 12, 2018 10:45 am

I have a Sharp Dressed Man x On The Verge sow. She is very well balanced, moderate frame and great milking sow. I'm looking to breed her for replacement gilts. I'm looking to add a touch more power and bone with out downsizing to much. Looking either cross, york or hamp boars that are making great replacement females. Preferably an older proven sire. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

Interested to see some suggestions as I'm looking to breed a few sows to the same type of boar for the same purpose. News Flash and Gain Control are a couple yorks on my short list. Anyone know how those daughters perform? X-ray vision is another older, more proven boar that looks like he may fit the bill, but not sure on how his daughters generate/mother either. Fortune Cookie has had a good run since coming to SGI, I think he would add bone and not downsize. Seems like there are a fair amount of Monumental/Fortune sows around so hopefully his daughters would follow suit. Sugar Daddy is another proven one that comes to mind.

Probably not much help, but maybe it'll spur on a few more comments.

Check out On Target at Upperhand Genetics. If you have any questions on what and how he will sire and how his daughters perform in the crate give Aaron Cobb a text or call.

I haven't used him but I know a lot of people of had success with breeding to Sugar Daddy at Mccoys and how he's producing females. I've used exclusive, from Laird's, couple times on the same sow and have gotten some REALLY nice gilts. There was 11 in this last litter and only 2 boars in the group. Sow you reference sounds a lot like the one I've used exclusive on.
