Overrun Semen

How much luck do you have with overrun semen? Sticking sows and getting large litters? If so, where from? Seems as if we cannot settle sows with high dollar crossbred semen so we are thinking about pursuing a different route. Thanks

We've had no issue with overrun. It's the same semen and you're purchasing it at a later time of day. We have been using Premium Blend and they are top notch for quality stock and awesome customer service. if you;re having trouble stick sows on grander scale, other than 1 here and there, I would review your methods first.

Thank you for the reply. We do think that sometimes not sticking a sow is on our part, however when we compare the number of purebreds litters that we have settled and the number of crossbred litters we have settled, it seems as if there is a problem with the semen from crossbred boars. We can stick nearly every purebred litter but have trouble with crossbred litters. We can settle the sows with crossbred boars from our neighbors who have boars, but not very often from big studs. Just wondering if anybody else has had similar problems or not. Thanks for the reply

That is a bummer. You might also look to see if there is a trend with the suppliers. Just my 2 cents, and I know very little about collecting, but concentrations and methods, I would think, vary from place to place.

I also recommend looking into deep uterine AI on some of your problem sows. It has a higher success rate than traditional AI.
