First year of 4-h pigs and need advice on training them

I have been working with my pigs now since may and one of them has always been friendly and open to every thing after a week he would walk around the pen but the other one is really annoying where there is a ramp and shoot for loading that is where he stays and he will not come out no matter what i do when he comes out on his own i go in and try to work with him but as soon as i start he goes back to the shoot and will not come out what do i do. sometimes when i get the other pig out he follows him while i work with him but that will not work at the show

i am open to any suggestions

Hi-
First off, what I would do is block off the ramp and shoot so that he is unable to hide anywhere in the pen. Also, you need to be just as stubborn as he is going to be, this will teach him that no matter how hard he tries, he isn't going to get his way. If you just keep letting him have his way, he thinks he is you master instead of vise versa. Hope this helps!

Try buying some small candy - jelly beans, swedish fish, something like that - and feeding it to the stubborn hog. After a little bit, try to lure him out of his corner and around the pen with it. Eventually, only use the candy as a reward.

I definitely agree with the above as well, that you have to be just as stubborn as the hog.

You are also gonna have to work really hard, and trust me, you are going to sweat and your ears might hurt by the end, but the hard work will pay off. My pig is very stubborn too, but when you spend lots of time with them, they get used to you and come out of their shell. Hope this helps!
