what's the breed?

Post by 4-Hgilts » Wed Aug 19, 2009 1:54 pm

ok, for all of you pig breed specialists i would like to know what the breed of pig is on the right of this page -> it's the brown hampshire looking pig that was a champion for darby valley genetics. just look to ur right and you'll see what i'm talking about. that pig is so pretty and looks incredibly muscled and in good quality. it looks like a cross of hampshire and spot or maybe duroc but i'm not sure so i'm asking u guys.
thnx for all who answer!- Hannah

haha, good question. basically it is a crossbred. I believe it was out of a boar called "out cold." he's an all white crossbred boar at real mccoy genetics. the red gene is a recessive gene and doesn't show up very often in crossbreds unless it has some duroc in it. I had a bluebutt sow bred to a black exotic this year, and one pig out of the whole litter was marked exactly like that pig, the rest were hamp appearing and bluebutts. It's just the genetics of the color gene.
