Gestating Gilt???

Post by ShowPigGirl2008 » Sat Oct 10, 2009 12:36 pm

Well, I'm new to the whole proccess of breding and farrowing out and I just A.I.'ed my duroc gilt on the 6th of October. I know the basics and the procedures for during and after the farrowing, but I have three different questions:

#1. How can I tell other than waiting for her next heat cycle to tell if she's bred?

#2. Are there any feed things that can be given to promote a helathy litter? Kinda like prenatal vitamins with humans?

#3. I want to give my gilt some Glucosamine tablets (can you give them?) to help her from being so stiff, is that safe to give during their gestation?

1. Waiting 21 days is the only thing you can do to tell if she is bred or not.

2. I'm not sure about feeds that promote a healthy litter, but there are some some shots that you can give before she farrows, that will help with baby pig health.
