Besides the obvious stuff like how much do you feed, what do you feed, what do ear notches mean... Have you ever been stumped with a really hard off the wall question or had the judge do something crazy when doing showmanship?

This year at the state fair i saw a judge for senior showmanship make all the contestants put their driving tools away and drive their hogs with their hands, while the intermediate judge didn't want you to touch the hog at all lol.

Ive seen that to but this judge put a twist to it and made them drive around the stands and in the crowd with out a driving tool. To be honest I cant remember ever going out and being stumped. I guess once my first year in senior showmanship the judge asked me what the backfat was and I said 7% instead of 7 tenths I wasnt really sure but I knew it was somewhere between 6-8 just didnt know the measurement
. I guess Ive never really had any brain busters

Ive never had a judge do that, but this year at county the pens were right behind the ring and we all went in for showmanship and he had them take the panels by the pens down and said if your pig went back to the pen then dont come back...I won it for the 4th year in a row

at our fair the judge took our show sticks and said do a figure eight around two cones. then at the next fair we had to show without sticks and all the gates were open and if our pig left then we were not to come back

wow that's pretty awkward guys! I think my pig would have zoomed out of the gates! the only thing that happend to me was when i was showing i let my pig in the ring and of course like the others she went running in and almost knocked over the judge!!! i swear he hated me after that!!

I wasn't showing but one time I saw a judge at one of the large state shows give kids peices of paper that had topics that related to the hog industry or somesort of question and he made seniors get on the mircophone and basiclly explain and expand on their topic. it was actually quite Interesting.

YA. theres been one judge that left the show ring while showmanship was going on and he was walking through the crowd. never seen that before ever. and there was same judge asked a question what do u get when u breed a pure hamp to a pure duroc and 1 person got it right and she won (the answer was all belted pigs with floppy ears.) was an interesting showmanship days.

In showmanship once, in my aunts class, they made u drive other people's hogs. She got a huge grouchy gilt while she gave up her precious little hamp. She was so mad but she won. Really great show!

I had a judge tell all of us to let the pigs go, take the mic, and tell the audience why we're here showing today. And it was awesome:)

i wasnt in the shoe but i was standing by the holding pens where the kids were. kevin wendt was the judge and he asked the kid "do you think you made it?'" the kid said he didnt know but said he felt confident. personally i dont know how i would have responded to this
