post you pig pics!!

Post by 4-Hgilts » Thu May 27, 2010 8:08 pm

If anybody would like to, I would like to see some pics of your pigs. Preferably your best piggies, but any will do. If you are a pig specialist and can point out the good spots of your pig-feel free to do so. the reason for my asking is so me and other kids fairly new to the hog showing can compare their pigs with other pigs, and also to learn what to look for when picking out a hog. Ii cannot be just told what a good quality looks like, i need a visual and i really think other kids might be able to understand pig parts better that way too.- Thanks

my mom posted ruby on the general talk, sorry, she's 3/4 red wattle and 1/4 hamp, my mom is having a mental break down with the weight tape, but my dad says she about 130 pounds now. they are slow growers, but can't beat a red pig on red clay...lol but i sure did learn how to pick out a pig for the next go around. i would think her back end is a "3", sure wished we could of gotten more weight on her for the fair, but then again no paylean since we are keeping her as a breeding gilt (and when I took that PQAPlus course they said it was against rules and i sure was happy that i did not use it) and it just wasn't worth the money that i could afford with my eggs selling

A great way to figure out what to look for is to go to some breeder's websites and read what they say about their sires. It helped me out a bunch when i first started. Also going to their sales and seeing the pigs in person and talking to the breeders can help too. :D
