Showmanship type?

Post by BearCreek » Sat Jun 05, 2010 12:20 am

Better to be more agressive, and bent over the pig some, or more relaxed and upright but still intense? Have won showmanship both ways and have lost showmanship both ways lol. Opinions?

I think more aggressive and bent over shows more control by the exhibitor.

None of those are really what my judges look for, they look for control and courtesy to others in the ring. They also want us to stay behind the pig rather then crowd it and block the view of other pigs. A nice posture is ok too.

All judges are looking for control of the pig, must judges all look for the same thing, its just how you are presenting those things to them that differs which is what I'm asking about.

Well then I stay in back of the hog and reach around it to tap it's jowl or hind leg. I also try to stay away from the other kids somewhat , but also try to show the pig to the judge. Sometimes I wonder if i get too far away from the judge. One time i got too close, and he looked at me funny. But that was my very first showing. Also my pig ran and almot knocked over the judge.

I prefer to be more agressive. Laid back is okay but I'd rather be more agressive. It really bothers me when people that are like 11 and up walk into the ring and are smiling and following their pigs. It's not that bad when 8 year olds do that because they are just starting and I'm not saying you have to be like scowling at the judge.

I bend over some what (makes your pig look longer) but im more laid back. I try not to hit my pig at all. Unless I really need to. Id say try to keep your pig more in the middle of the ring. That way it catches the judges eye a few times. Also yur sopost to be 15 to 20 feet away from the judge. I know ive had judges in the past who place people higher just because they opened the door of a holding pen for some one else. Hoped this helped

I show bent over my pig, but not in an uncomfortable way. I also am more aggresive, but rarely ever hit my pig, if that makes sense. When I am at home walking it, I show it that the stick is not its friend, and go the opposite direction of the stick. For example, if I need the pig to turn left, i just place the stick around his right eye. Also, if he/she gets to fast, you can place the stick it front of it, and it will slow down.

I prefer to stand up and be agressive. but not too agressive (it mey scare the judge). i bbend over when im showing the judge the chest of the pig(it makes it look wider).

You can look relaxed bent over. Just because you are bent over doesnt mean you are agressive, it just means it is the way you show, and it is the most comfortable thing for you

I have always been relaxed when I show and standing somewhat up. Its really depends on the judge though some like aggressiveness and some like relaxed.

eye contact, aggresiveness are key but if the pig dont want to show, you cant really fight that.
