Who clips your hog?

I'm 9 new to showing and will have to clip my hogs before we show at then end of Jan. My mom went NUTS (more like had a COW) when my dad gave me the clippers to clip my show calf and I can on ly guess the facaly expressions when I get my Hogs to the barn for their clipping. At least I can't go too wrong clippings the hogs like I can with the heifer.

The only way to learn is to jump right in....would help if you could get advice from an older 4-h member or adult that wants to help a youngster out.

I'm sure there's plenty of posts on the internet that you can read about clipping pigs. The hardest part is restraining the pig, so you will need help from someone older. Before you even get the clippers out, make sure you know if there's a requirement of the amount of body on the pig, that needs to be left on. Ex- My fair says pigs need at least a 1/2 inch of hair left on them or they will not be able to sell. The reason is because when pigs are slaughtered they have to de-haired by a machine, and it's hard to de-hair something with less than an 1/2 inch of hair to start with! Remember to: Always run the razor against the hair!!

clip every 3 weeks. keeps the pigs looking youthful and fresh. also, keep all the hair as even as possible. Be sure to trim off all eyelashes, and whiskers on the face. good luck!

Our ag teacher clips some peoples hogs but the best thing is to do it your self so you can learn.

Ask someone older to help. I clip alot of other kids just for the fun of fighting pigs that have never been clipped before.
