How to slow pig down?

Post by potbelly333 » Thu May 12, 2011 10:31 pm

Pig does great in showmanship except wants to walk a lot faster than me, I am 11 and short so it hard to keep up with a fast pig. He does great and I never have to touch him with a stick to get him to turn the way i want but he won't slow down, what do to do train him to walk slower?

I suggest you try using sullivan's show pig paste before you go in the ring! it calms the pig alot! heres the link: https://www.sullivansupply.com/cart/tx/ ... paste.aspx

i know its kinda late for a post but, if my pig starts to move faster than i am i use my whip right between their ears-middle of the fore-head. works for me

hope this helps,

I've found that tapping their forehead does work but i like to tap them under the chin to slow them down while also letting the judge see the hogs front end.
