Gilt needs to gain 60 pounds in 20 days...
I have a gilt that I purchased to show at state fair that isn't growing. She just isn't gaining right, and if she doesn't weigh 240 by state then I won't be able to show her. She currently weighs 186. I only have about 20 days until state....is there any hope that she can make it? Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

Well she will need a 2.7 adg (240-186=54/20=2.7). How much are you feeding her? What are you feeding her?

UPDATE: she didn't end up making it, but she's going to be a breeding gilt so that's ok! We were feeding a wet paylean mix with milk replacement, but she just wasn't putting any weight on. She's really high strung as well, so all of the running around didn't help much either.

I really would not recommend breeding gilts that have been fed pay lean it can cause a mass of joint issues on breeders, also the muscling can complicate birth as it makes the muscle tighter in the pelvis which can constrict the birthing canal, just my two cents, seen the outcome of people breeding pay lean pigs.
It's not all about being the heaviest muscled hog, Its about balance.

I have heard that in time, the effects of this may wear off? I heard that it can cause issues with getting pigs bred but didn't know of birthing complications. We have 3 gilts due anytime now that were bred with our boar. 2 were given paylean. The 3rd was a cousin's backup fair pog and we don't think it was given paylean as they had to hold their pigs back to make weight. Hopefully we don't have issues.

I have seen many gilts fed paylean go on to be productive sound mothers. I have personally bred gilts that had been fed paylean with no more problems than my gilts that never had paylean. I put the paylean fed gilts on a lower protein ration for 45-60 days and breed.
