show whips

Post by cashmere » Sun Nov 22, 2015 10:46 pm

I am in the process of ordering a whip for my show pigs. Any suggestions for length and brand of whip.
Thanks

It depends on your state and what fair/show you're entering. I live in California and all ours have to be shorter than 40 inches. Weaver brand hog whips are by far my favorite and last the longest. Hope this helps!

You must buy your weaver whips in a different country!!! Ours last a week before I have to get out the super glue and duck tape. Talked to guys at Louisvile and said they are changing manufactures! Until they get better we will stay with Sullivan's.

I would buy sullivans. I bought two weaver whips and both were supposed to be their "best whips we make" and the handles would come off in a day. will never buy their whips again even though they look nice.

I always go through Sullivans. I have a 36in whip right now and it is at the right size to work the pig, but not too long that it is a hassle to move around.

I will have to recommend sullivans, I once had a weaver whip that broke after one day of use. A 39 or 40in should be right on length it all depends on how tall u r and how big the pig is.

Anyone try the Heads Up Whip? Trying to decide if it's worth the money.

We have them and love 'em. The bright color also helps too! Some pigs will stop when you're hitting them with a traditional whip, but these ones are nice because it just gives them a little annoying tickle.

we purchased a Titan stick and a Sancho whip both in 36 for my daughter. the craftsmanship is a little higher on the titan. the pigs seem to respond a little bit better.

I have been looking at these. Have a traditional whip right now and find that my pigs do stop when they feel the popper. Would you recommend using one at a showmanship show? I'm not sure if the judges are taking to the new whip, and I always try to go far in showmanship judging. My first year I got booted in the first two minutes because of a solid whip I was using. Thoughts?

Here in California they are using them all over the place. Jackpots, county, etc. I've never heard a judge complain about them. I think anything you can do to get your pig looking more natural is acceptable.
