New To Showing
Re: New To Showing
the materials i use for show is a show stick/ whip which ever you are more comfortable with, a brush i keep mine in my back pocket while in the ring so if he/she tries to fight with another pig you can tap yours on the nose and it should break it up, also i got a water sprayer for when in the holding pen because not always will they have waters in the holding pen before the show or sale so they can stay hydrated ... Good luck hope you place good!!!
Re: New To Showing
You should also have a mild soap for washing and some sort of spray conditioner or shine to keep the skin hydrated and looking good (not dry and scale-y). We use Weavers Swine Conditioner and Shine (its a spray bottle and pink liquid, not the aerosol). For soap you could use a human shampoo or we use the Mane and Tail shampoo for horses.
You are also going to need to clip your pig at some point, so you'll need clippers. We use the the Andis AGC 2 speed with the narrow blade. You'll want to clip at 1/2" or 3/4". We use the 3 3/4FC blade.
Hope this helps.

Re: New To Showing
I knew nothing coming into showing. It will be my third show next summer. I learned most of my knowledge from my breeder. You should find a breeder that can answer your questions and help you if you need it. You will learn as you go. Basic supplies, a good feed, and pigs will give you most of the knowledge you need to do good at your show. Good luck.
