Stubborn pig!

Post by 0039325cr » Wed Dec 06, 2017 7:56 am

Hello everyone!
I've been trying to work with my barrow ever since I got him and he doesn't seem to be getting the message. I've introduced the show whip to him for a while now and just yesterday as I was working with him he rammed me! I think he thinks he's the one in charge...what can I do to establish that he needs to listen to me and the whip? Thanks!

Hi!
It sounds like your pig needs to learn who's boss. Stubborn pigs are a pain but can be worked with. Try rewarding him when he does something right. A good experience may be just what he needs. Also you might try teaching him in the pen first if it is big enough. If you need further help there is a really good book called Show your way to the top by Tara Jayne. It has helpful tips to train all kinds of hogs. Some more good advice would be to ask an older more experienced showman for help. Hope you get your hog trained.
