Calming a pig before travel

Post by 4pigsinapen » Sun Sep 02, 2018 4:51 pm

We have a gilt that is nervous about being confined in places. Won’t go in the scale (so we hope she’s at weight by weigh in  ) and I know she’s not going to want to load up into the trailer for fair next week.
Anyone try any of the calming solutions? Ive heard of Pig Calm and Focus but wondering how they’ve worked for anyone? Want to keep her as relaxed as we can, as I don’t want to lose much weight between travel and I don’t want to hurt herself in the trailer.

As far as loading, we keep our trailer backed up and the kids load the pigs on and off of it every day to get them used to loading. They come out of the barn and load right up. May try feeding them in the trailer first time or two you try so they associate it with something good. Never tried any of the calming agents.
