Brushes, Skin products, and DIYs

Post by FreshAir&Sunshine » Sun Nov 03, 2019 7:48 pm

My son (he’s 5) is showing at our county show for the first time this year and it has been almost 20 years since I fed my last show pig, so I am out of the loop! What are your best tips and tricks for skin/hair care and best brushes to use on our solid black gilt? When I showed everyone had their own DIY concoction in their sprayer, but I can’t recall what all we used. Thanks!

For us, we keep it real simple. We make sure to wash regularly with a high moisturizing shampoo, as well as something like the the Weaver Brightening Shampoo, and make sure that animals are always out of the sunlight. Then we mist on a light coat of Weaver's Swine conditioning spray (the pink stuff, not the aerosol) and we brush that in with a very soft brush. On show day we use the SCS and then mist down with water to get some ultra shine.

With dark pigs they look better if they are really dark. In order to get that you will need them to get some sun. We also use a stiff rice brush a few times a week to really exfoliate their dead skin. Below is a link to a good article about this on Sure Champ's web site. You can find many articles like this all over the internet and videos on you tube for almost anything you want to know.
