What is a perfect story?

Answer the question truthfully and write from your heart.

I don't think there is any perfect story. But i agree, write what you feel is true and you can't go wrong. Be perfectly honest in your story and you will be rewarded for it.

As a county extension agent I think the stories that I felt have been the best are the ones in which kids told about their failures in a project. Admitting the truth about a failure and then writing about what you learned from it and how you would improve upon it or what you will do differently in the future is really impressive stuff!!!! It shows project and knowledge growth! Also be sure to include information about the other 4-H projects you are in and any citizenship or leadership activities you have done within that particular project or in other projects during the year.

Hope this helps.

That's a great point, I'll remember that for use with my kids.

Have fun with it and tell what you've done...one of my favorite stories started out with me telling my reader that I was standing there covered in mud with nothing accomplished. Then I proceeded to go into what all I do all year long with my pigs and other projects....just be honest

As one who has judged a lot of records these are things I look for:
1- What has been learned - both positive and negative
2- Is the information beliveable? Feed efficiencies of < 2.00 are not
3- What help or inspiration has been given to others?
4- Cover both the fun and the drudgery - Everything is not always fun
5- How will you use what you learned this year in the future?
6- What do you plan to do and want to learn in this project next year?
7- Have you thanked those who helped you?

may I suggest to keep a daily journal on all projects, set aside 5 minutes at the end of every daily routines and record what you did +'s and -'s
and include lots of detail this will help you at the end of the season finishing your book's,

Records are probably the most boring part of the current project but they can be the most important part of your next year's project. It is hard to remember all aspects of last year when you have problems or simply want to remember what you did right or wrong in the year or years past. Good records save time, money and make you a better showman and animal caretaker.

When you fill out your record sheets, any experienced person who looks them over will know if they are realistic or not so write down what really happened. Perfection is not the goal, learning and grrowth is.
