What breed of pig is best to show? Or Does it just depend on the person and stuff like that? What breed do you show?

It depends on the person, but I'd say Yorks and Hamps usually place the highest. I show Yorks and Hamps, and I seem to do pretty well.

I like and raise Polands for the durable/carcass/ Grow ability . I also raise Berks and durocs. Each breed has its pros and cons

I think the easiest breed for a young breeder to raise would be a york, because of their natural mothering ability, fertility, and the ease of crossing to make good market hogs.
You build a hog from the ground up.

Yes, it is all about the shower him/herself. I show durocs and crosses. I personally enjoy durocs the most, but that's just me.

true, berkshires are steadily getting more popular. but its because you can win easier with them. in all reality, theres only 4-5 berkshires in there class.

They are getting more popular. Numbers are going up at shows. 100+ at Wisconsin state fair. Over 150 at Illinois State Fair.

if you meant hate durocs im behind you i love hamps, yorks and crosses thats all i have in my barn. Durocs i really just dont like buts its all about the showman and what he or she wants. Just because there are more berks at wsf and ilsf doesnt mean that they are good. I watched part of the berk show at wsf and have to say that only about three that i saw were any good. Id rather have low numbers and quality than high numbers and low quality.

Easy now if you want productivity and meat quality you can't beat them red tanks. However i do have to admit Yorks beat everything else byfar. Dont be dissin the red breed!!!

well i love yorks the most, but hampshire are pretty nice as well. if you know what judge you will have at fair, if thats your goal, sometimes judges have breed preferences as well. i remember when my sis won grand champion with a hamp and my brother had a way better york in the drive. thats just the way it goes
