How much do I need to be feeding per day to gain 90 lbs in 33 days?

What is your target weight. How big is your pig currently. Are you trying to make the minimum weight or are you shooting for the top end of the heavy weight class. The answers to these questions will ultimately determine just how much feed you need.

The math says you need to feed 3lbs of base feed for 1lb of gain. So you would need to feed 8.16lbs of feed per day. You need 90/33 which gives you 2.72lbs per day. 2.72lbs x 3 (since you need 3lbs of feed to gain 1lb) 8.16lbs of feed per day. That is a pushing it pretty hard but not impossible. I would say you need to break that up into at least 3 feedings a day.

You can also look at adding some feed additives that will help in gain.

Actually the 3 lb of feed per 1 lb of gain is inaccurate. That was an AVERAGE number for feed efficiency back in the 60s and 70s when hogs were far fatter.

Lean tissue (muscle) is much more efficiency to synthesize and deposit than adipose (fat) tissue. Modern hogs have much better feed efficiencies due to increased muscle and the nutrition have now.

With all that said, again 3:1, 2.8:1 etc.... are AVERAGE numbers for hogs growing from 40 to 250 lb. Just as growth increases as the pig grows, feed efficiency gets worse as the pig grows. So, while the feed efficiency for a pig weighing 50 lb might be 1.8 lb feed to 1 lb gain, a pig weighing 250 lb might have a feed efficiency of 4 lb feed to 1 lb gain.

You might say a pig is most feed efficient when born and loses a little ground everyday as it grows. Just saying when you use 3:1 it really doesn’t apply for a number of reasons.

The only means I have of weighing my daughter's guilt is a weight tape. According to the weight tape she is about 110lbs. Weigh in is May 31st and minimum is 200lbs. I'm kind of stressing out about it. I am thinking about pulsing paylean. Currently feeding 6.75 lbs Purina 809 with 12 ounces of champion drive and 6 ounces of power fuel (working the amount of power fuel up slowly) a day.

Energy (calories) fuels growth. Heavy Weight is 70% fat and very high on energy. Power Fuel is 31% fat. Power Fuel works great for ruminants, but for pig’s I suggest Heavy Weight.

You have to feed 2.26 X Powrr Fuel (70 / 31 = 2.26) compared to Heavy Weight to get the same effect. What I am saying is when you are trying to push or increase weight gain, just use Heavy Weight and not Power Fuel.

I will see if I can get some heavy weight. Do you think I have a chance to make weight with what I'm doing now? Or do I need to do something else? I just increased the 809 to seven pounds a day. I will be switching to 909 soon.

90 lb in 33 days equates to a little over 2.72 lb/day gain. That is a lot but certainly doable. I would keep the pig on 809 (819 is the replacement). You might be in an area that still has 809, if so keep the pig in that.

809 has more energy than 909. The legal minimum weight to begin feeding a Paylean is 150 lb (have to point that out). Add 1 oz per every 5 lb of feed of High Octane Paylean 900. Feed for 14 days then remove for 5 days, then back in again.

Also, make sure the pig is dewormed every 30 days. If using Safeguard it needs to be administered over a 3 consecutive day period. (Figure dose, divide by 3, give a third of the dose for 3 days).
