respiratory congestion

Post by ddwil » Wed May 01, 2019 5:54 am

I have a pig that is about 35 lbs and has a congested, crackiling sound to him when he breaths, he is not thumping yet though. WHat is the recommended treatment for this to get it wiped out quickly

Although off label for pigs, Nuflor has been outstanding for us in knocking that stuff out, especially when Draxxin doesn't work. We'll also use banamine to help combat any discomfort or inflammation.

We'll use Excede. (I've also used Nuflor or Draxxin in the past as Pac as indicated.) We administer banamine as well.

treated him with nuflor twice with 1 cc each time, 48 hours apart last week, made a difference in some of the congestion and "gunk" around his eyes but still doesn't sound like he is breathing right and still not eating like he should. What can or should I do now?

If you've gotten a response with Nuflor, I'm assuming you can keep it up. You'll want to ask your vet how much time to allow between follow-up doses. With Excede, after I have given the initial 2 doses 48 hours apart, I can give a dose every 4 days. My vet has recently told me I can extend that to every 7 days to aid in a full recovery. I've had to do this for as long as a month with one of my boars. He did fully recover.
