Water.

Post by Acer » Mon Jul 15, 2019 8:42 am

Pigs are on waterers with fresh water daily but only drinking maybe one gallon per day and it’s been 90+ degrees for two weeks. I don’t think this is helping with their appetites either. Any suggestions on something to put in water would be greatly appreciated.

How much do the pigs weigh?
Do they have another source of water?
Is there anything impacting the temperature, cleanliness, or flow of the water?

This time of year water can grow algae etc... which off flavor the water. Are the pvc waterers in the sun? If so, move them under shade.

Algae, micro-organisms can produces chemicals that cause water to taste bad to pigs. That was in reference to cleaning the pvc waterers every couple of weeks. If the pigs are not drinking at least 1 gallon of water per every 100 lb of bodyweight, something is wrong with the water.
