Gilts with little appetite

Post by Buckeye1002 » Thu Jul 18, 2019 11:40 am

I was just curious as what some of you do to increase appetite on gilts. I have 2 that just don’t wanna eat. We are about 20 days from show and I really need to average about 2lbs a day. Right now they are on 2lbs sunglo 18 percent, 8 ounces of power fuel, cup of milk replacer and 4.5 ounces of Paylean in the morning and evening. They have fresh water supply. I thought maybe they didn’t like the pressure so I added pvc watered to see but that did not help. They have been wormed every 30 days. They eat just a little at each feeding. I have fans on them. They are not sick and seem very happy. They do need some cover added to them. Any suggestions to maybe get them to eat a little more would be greatly appreciated. We have been having a adg of 1.33 a day. Thanks in advance

I am curious what their current weights are. You can try feeding them and then after 15minues remove the feed and do not give them more until it is the next feeding time. Do that for a couple of days and that may increase their willingness to eat when food is not readily available when they want to nibble.

Both are right at 210. Have been having the kids clean out the feeders after about an hour or so haven’t seen much of a difference. Have tried slopping and adding little things. But they eat just a little. I try not to add to much because I know that feed is the main source for weight gain.

In terms of products that have always worked for us, we use Vita Charge Liquid Boost and the Vita Charge paste (now a gel). You have to feed the boost everyday, but I swear by it. I use a syringe to draw it out and squirt it directly in their mouth. I've seen my pigs on it and off it and it works!
