Heat behavior

<t>So maybe it's the full moon?<br/> Here is the scenario - bred 6 proven sows July 10th. Very hot here, but semen was stored properly. 21 days later - 3 act like they are coming back into heat. 3 look like they stuck. So I order new semen, run the boar out - 2 lock up and I re-breed no problem. Sow...

Feed for babies when weaned

<t>I have a question for everyone - what ingredients does it take to keep the babies moving forward instead of falling back and having that ugly stage at about 5 or 6 weeks? How do the pigs in auctions look like a market hog at 35 lbs? I have starter delievered in bulk, and can get either nutrena/sh...

loose stools on 8-9 week old pigs

<t>Have a group of pigs about 8 to 9 weeks old. Were weaned at 4 weeks. Given prestarter at 1 bag per litter and then moved onto a 19% starter. They have been on the starter for 3 + weeks. The last couple day stools have gotten very loose. No yellow, no dark, no squirts - just runny. Light gray/brow...

<t>Does anyone have any comments about "short stack"? The new landrace boar at Triple B? Just wondering about his bone/foot size? We have a couple of daughters out of zeus/flunkie that go back to General Lee and Samson 287-4 that I like a lot for body and muscle. Just want to make them heavier foote...

<t>Just wanted to know everyone's thoughts on this boar's offspring 6 months later, now that they have matured. Trying to compare to a couple of new boars, Grimm's Gem at Triple B and Air Raid at Shaffers. I have a AnchorxFull Dimension gilt - looking to breed pure. Thanks in advance for any comment...

<t>Hi, unfortunately had the same thing happen to me this past week. Sow started to prolapse the day before she delivered. She had 16 on her own - all live. This is what I did after she cleaned out, we used umbilical tape and a curved needle and ran a running stitch around the rectum. Leave enough t...

<r>Had a litter out of Super Duper last week, on a W-D Ideal gilt. Had 9, 5 hamp, 4 blue. So far they look good - bone, length and putting on that baby fat from momma milk. I'll try and take some pictures and post. The gilt is complete and plenty of muscle - could stand to be a touch wider in her ba...

Had 2 November litters out of Roper. Used him on pure yorks that had good depth and spring of rib. The pigs have lots of bone, good legs and toes, basewidth and super high tail sets. Didn't throw a lot of color - mostly eye brows and couple specks on the butt.

<t>Cajun and Erika - Good luck to both of you! Keep us posted - I've got 8 coming in next week and it's always nerve wracking the start of the farrowing season. 7 of my girls looks good to go, 2 of them gilt litters. The 8th one hardly looks bred, but has toned solid throughout and never stood for t...

<r>I don't usually try toning them until day 23 or so. First I'm visually looking for signs that they didn't come back in heat and then testing up to day 30 for solid tone. You can get a false positive 1 or 2 days before their heat cycle starts. Instructions from DRW are right on. Nothing worse than...

Another holding question

<t>Realizing every animal is different - what would you do with this one?<br/> Pig weighs 241. Show in 24 days, max weight of 265 with no weigh back. He is a great gainer - took him for a trailer ride, cut feed, walked and he still gained 19 pounds in 8 days. Barrow is sound, good cover and rib and ...

<t>My Vet told me a drop in blood calcium. Lost 20 big pigs this spring to a 3rd parity sow. She went into labor, but the calcium imbalance caused her not to contract and push. I'm working with the vet to follow this line of sows genetically - Dam and 3 daughters all average 14 + pigs per farrowing ...

<t>I bred a pure duroc to a light cross and a dark cross, the light cross gave me 6 blues, 3 red belts and 1 black with front white socks. The dark cross gave me 7 red belts (2 with black spots on the rump also) and 2 black belted. Ears are both up and down. Down ears are smaller than a normal duroc...

<t>Thorp Equipment Inc. <br/> Nice stainless crate with good adjustable butt bars. The babies can also use the feeder and waterer, makes it easier to transition them. <br/> <br/> Flooring has been a harder issue for me. The coated metal seems a little slick for some of my girls, but the cast iron/pl...
