Pre Breeding Vacinces

I received my bottle of Farrowsure Gold late. Had planned on breeding 2 girls next week end. Is it too late to at least get one shot into them? It would only be 1 week before breeding.

Using Matrix on 1st parity gilt

<t>I have a gilt that I am looking to wean this week end. I would really like to re breed her along with 2 other sows around the 16th of March. I was thinking of using Matrix on her to get her in sync with the other 2 sows that will cycle around March 16th. Has anyone had any luck with using matrix ...

I just had a litter of Brut pigs (blue butt from Cain's) out of our pure Duroc sow. She had 9 all hamp looking pigs, 5 are boars and they are wide, great rib shape, nice rumps and packed with muscle. And it appears that all 9 will have erect ears.

"grafting" piglets

<t>Yes, you can "graft" the new piglet. I have done this a couple times. I normally introduce the piglet into the other litter while they are quiet/sleeping so the new piglet gets the litters "smell" on it. Then, when they come out to nurse, I would help the new piglet get a teat. I would help the n...

<t>I've traveled both roads, AI without boar and AI with teaser boar. I much prefer having a "teaser" as it makes heat/standing heat detection so much easier. I only have 5 sows, but since keeping a boar on the farm, my "1st time" conception rate is pretty close to %100. With the cost of semen and s...

Small Framed Gilt

<t>Drw<br/> <br/> I'd say that 8 of the 10 were of average size. 2 of the litter were small and 1 of them actually shot out of her. I was amazed. It seemed also, that if they came breech, she had an easier time delivering them and we just had to help when the piglet finally got it's legs out. If the...

Small Framed Gilt

<t>OK folks, let me get this straight. She was overdue by 1 day. I was concerned she might have problems, so I gave her lut to induce. Not quite 24 hours later, she started oozing fluids (1:00 pm) and by 5:30pm she had not delivered her first pig (she had been pushing a lot). So at that time I went ...

Small Framed Gilt

<t>I didn't go up into her until after she had been laboring (she was pushing and oozing a lot of fluid) for well over 3 hours. She was also at day 115. I had given her a shot of Lut the night before as I was concerned that she might have a few problems) I could barely get my own hand thru her hip b...

Small Framed Gilt

<t>I have a hampx gilt that farrowed out yesterday. The first pig we had to snare and pull, followed by pulling all the 2 of the 10 she had. In going into her I noted that her hip bones are very close, I could hardly get my hand through and almost impossible to grab the piglet head to pull (thus use...

Successful Show

<t>Just an update. Our scale weighed light, as my son's barrow weighed in at 234lbs on weigh in day for fair. He did pretty well in is market class, came in 3rd in his class, sold 52nd out of 150 lots at fair and got $7 a lb from a very generous buyer. The judge liked this barrow, nicely finished, v...

wrinkled skin/what to do?

<t>We've increased his feed to 3 lbs. am and pm plus a lb around noon and another lb around 9:30 pm. As of this evening he's at 245. Weigh ins are Monday am. I want him to be about 245 to 250 for market class. Thanks for all the input. The wrinkles are still there, but not as noticeable. After he is...

wrinkled skin/what to do?

<r>My son's barrow is looking really good except that the skin across the top of his ham/loin junction has wrinkles. The barrow weighs 232lbs as of this evening. He has adequate length, is very wide from front to rear and is sound. Any suggestions on what we can do to fill in the wrinkles? He has be...

<t>Thanks for the input, I really appreciate it. Could the fact that they were so small when they were born (they were about 1/4 the size of the other piglets; didn't even think they were going to make it) have something to do with their development and they weren't fully developed in this area? Eve...
