Re: Farrowing House Design

I have an outdoor wood stove and used hot water to heat the farrowing area. Works good.

Re: Hauling with a suburban

I have seen the results of people pulling to much trailer with not enough vehicle. Do your family a favor and continue to pull the trailer with the F-350. It may be a pain in the but to take 2 vehicles but you all will arrive safely at the destination.

Re: Upper weight limit

They all go in by declared birth month. There have been some interesting size differences but that is the case in most classes even pure bred registered animals.

Re: Upper weight limit

Age is the limiting factor not weight on our County breeding show. January first is the oldest a pig is supposed to be.

Re: Keeping pigs still during weigh ins

At weigh ins you can tell the pigs that go through the scale on a regular basis vs the ones that were taken out of the pen and loaded on the trailer. Sometime a pig an get freaked but generally if the kids have worked with them a lot they are much calmer going through scales.

Just move them to a solid pen where they can't see or hear the baby pigs.

Re: Question 1/2 ton truck pulling a low profile trailer

How old is your truck if it still has a 350 in it? How are your springs and shocks? What is the weight of the trailer and what is the towing capacity of your vehicle. I have seen people pulling very large campers with mid sized SUV's and it has ended badly for them especially on the interstate at hi...

Get heavier clips at the hardware store as they hold up better.

I put eaves on my shed and runs come out from there. My sows are always outside until it is time to farrow.
