It seems like we have tried everything we can get down here (way southern california). And so far, I really like Sunglo's First Response and their Sector 2 for after weaning.

Losing litter

One of our sows just aborted her pregnancy. At what stage in the gestation do they absorb the litter? She passed sacks from both horns and then the rest of the afterbirth. I looked through the sacks and found only 2 fetus. She was 4 1/2 weeks into the pregnancy.

Since she was in with others and now you have moved her to another location without her buddies, good possiblilty that she will back off on her feed. Which you don't want.

The discharge you saw could have been the mucos plug. So she is getting close.

Just had a litter last week on a pure sow. 13 live, 1 stillborn. 2 were runts.
They walk very wide, high tail settings. I think they look very good.
Not a lot of color, mostly blue eyebrows and some speckeled butts.

I don't know about others, but I like to make sure that I am present when a gilt has her first litter. Personally, I like to be there for all my litters.

<t>Matrixed, and bred a couple of gilts and sows in Sept. Had two sows that pregtoned open. The one duroc didn't show any signs of coming back into heat, but every time i pregtoned, it came back open. We decided to wait a couple of months and then hit her with pg600 to get her to start cycling again...

Our iron bottle says 2-4 days of age. So we usually iron and ear notch at day 3. Used to clip teeth at the same time, but dont anymore. Some litters still get cut up faces with or without clipping teeth.

I've seen articles about using it when the feed is being grinded, but nothing about just adding it to an already completed feed.
I was hoping some of the nutritional experts would chime in.
