Semen tank - Frozen
I have a tank that I no longer need, actually has been filled only once as I have two tanks. MVE XC-20 Signature I’m located close to Ft Wayne. Pickup at the farm or potential delivery east and west delivery along 30 for a reasonable fee. Reasonably priced at $650. Pm is probably best way to communi...

Re: Sow nursing
as baby pigs there are times when the nipples can swell, become tender and be rubbed to scabs. when this happens the teats are no longer functional. i dont have a picture but im thinking this is the issue. I would hesitate to breed her.

Re: Replacement gilt breeding age
the majority of show pig females are very unsound reproductivley, no use in denying the obvious.
many delay breeding until they are 12-18 months old before breeding in an attempt to minimize some of the issues of being able to farrow without extreme assistance. Sometimes this even helps.

Re: Managing Size of Piglets
I am always sad to read these type of words from people but its the reality of the ridiculous selection pressure on show pig females away from basic fundamental reproductive traits. Size, bone density, rump structure all need to change dramatically of this will continue. Yes, controlling feed intake...

Re: Age verification
yes, but not sure the procedure and expense. Cell Telomers can be measured to determine accurate age. The NSR covered this topic spring (March) magazine. If age was verified on pigs the showing will look massively different as the 10-12 month old pigs that are shown as 6-7 month old pigs would be ou...

Re: Farm help needed/shared space for sows available
I should have stated that the partnership could lead to ownership if the right person(s) are found sooner rather than later.
30+ years ago I would have killed for this opportunity vs the time, effort and $$$$ spent to bring this farm to its present state.

Farm help needed/shared space for sows available
Only PM me for inquiries please. Let’s talk if you are interested. I’m getting of age and want to find a partner to help with periodic chores and help with animal care when I may be away from the farm on business or pleasure for short periods of time. Would have potential space for show pig females ...

Re: Boar collection
buy supplies from a known vendor, follow instructions on collecting and extending.
It can take some time to train boars to a dummy especially with little experience. Ive had some that were instant on a dummy the first time they were exposed and others were difficult at best.
its a hands on job.

Re: To give the shots or not...that is the question?...
vaccines and antibiotics and day and night difference.
A robust vaccine program is common sense and antibiotics should be used as needed.
consult with your consulting vet on programs.

Re: Baby pigs dying **Help**
Sounds like dehydration from either scours which you should see or starvation as the sow does not seem to be milking.
If that is the case she should be culled.

Re: when to breed
Physical signs can differ.
Run your teaser boar where he can have nose contact twice a day.
Mark when she stands the first time, breed a Gilt 12 hours later then again 12 hours later and then the third dose 12 hours after.
Sow it’s 24 hours than another 24=hours.

Re: Breeding a cross sow with a cross boar?
It’s not related to a specific breed or cross per se on a small litter.
Many factors too numerous to mention.
My advice to improve litter size assuming you are adequate on nutrition is to use at least 3 dose of semen from at least two boars.

likely very isolated from other hog farms?
that would make the PRRS thought less intriguing but certainly still possible. Wish you luck.
