Re: New Show mom needs help
My 1st question is her weight appropriate for her farrowing date. If it is then how much feed should a pig weighing 37 pounds without competition really get in it's belly and not on the ground...3/4-1 pound daily or is that too much to expect. You've washed out the barrel just make sure you rinsed a...

Re: First time showing, lots of questions!
Welcome to livestock showmanship. Young or 1st time showman even if that showman is showing for the 1st time at 16-18 yrs old need lots and lots of encouragement and coaxing. But no matter what her age involve her in every step from pen building and prep of pen to water system installation feeder in...

Re: Help! Weight gain!
Agree with PAC. I think I figured 43 days 'til weigh in.....what ADG is needed between now and 1/19...for even 235 lbs? I figure 3.14 ADG. Show the pig as an under weight for the experience or start looking for replacement pig that weighs about 150 at least right now. Best of luck to ya. It happens ...

Re: What will 2018 show pigs look like?
Even during this period of smaller framed pigs we've gone through over the past 3-5 years the taller longer framed pigs with maybe one thing special in their make-up have been really hard to get around in the champion drive. The "modern Ones" over that period did very well in class and som...

Re: Heated Floors in Showbarn
If you're concerned about piglets getting too hot then just run your radiant heat piping in just part of each pen and that way they can move away from it if too hot. They might for instance move to a part of the pen where the heat is bleeding over and still somewhat warm. Also, you want to incorpora...

Re: Tips
Also, unless you're showing at a very small show, the exhibitor and pig needs to learn to work as a team prior to show day so the pig can be properly shown........so the judge can easily analyze the pig.

Glad it's running! One last thing that my propane people told me was "close the door". That is the access door to the pilot light. Sounds silly but I trust these guys.

Re: LB White trouble
We've had the same problem or similar over the years and would always 1st replace the thermocoupler and then the gas valve after that and heater would start working. Tried to fire 2 heaters up this season and pilot light wouldn't stay lit. For various reasons we took both heaters to a family owned p...

If it isn't sunburned then I would say it's strep. If you haven't done already post topic on health issues and see if one of the vets has an idea for drug for treatment.

Re: Pasterns!
Hand feed using hanging feeder
Slightly limit feed intake (I'm guessing 3.25 to 3.75 daily)
Start using top dresses at about 125 lbs feeding to his look of making him the best he can be
Paylean 2 to 4 weeks prior to show depending on the pig if sound of structure
My 2 cents worth!

Re: Hog Barn???
Farrowing Barn: If you keep 12 sows/gilts on hand and breed 12 to hopefully have 8 litters. I would build the barn to accommodate 12 farrowing crates but put in only 8 to start with. You'll probably have 16 sows to breed before you know it and then you'll be glad you planned for 12 crates. Plan the ...
