Re: Please help!! Lost pigs to cougar have back up pig but is light!!!
Today starts fair weekend and we did it! It took the whole family, but we got this pig to 250lbs. A big thank you to KGB and the advice he gave us. The piv, Clark, looks great and will have to post a picture when he is all shined up. To think, eight weeks ago he was 95lbs and today he is 250lbs. Can...

Re: Cougar killed showpigs, have back up pig but is light!! Don't want to give up!!
It took a lot of work, but we did it. We have four days until fair, five days until weigh in. This morning he weighs 236.8lbs. He looks great and I am excited to see him in the showring.
Hard work paid off.

Re: Rebreeding
We used live cover. We did use a snare. After all pigs were out we cleaned her out with a warm antibiotics vagina enema several times. She got a shot of antibiotics. Her body condition bounced back. She isn't too fat. Just didn't know if she would still show signs of heat and just not take. I am goi...

Rebreeding
We had a gilt that littered out in February. She has a lot of the show quality in her. We pulled every piglet. She was extremely swollen, but seemed to bounce back nicely. She weaned her whole litter and was a great mom. She has been in with our boar for three heat cycles and nothing has taken. I do...

Paylean question
When you mix the Paylean in with the 6lbs of feed, do they need to eat all 6lbs at one sitting or can it be broke up morning and evening feeding? Also, when feeding multiple pigs, is it best to separate them? Especially when feeding feed with Paylean? When we start it, want to make sure we do it cor...

Please help!! Lost pigs to cougar have back up pig but is light!!!
Hello. I also posted this question on the nutrition forum too. I had a cougar come into our pen and drag our two Showpigs through a tight field fence with wood boards. Horrible!! Fish and game came out and tracked the collared cougar and took care of the issue. We raise pigs and have others but they...

Cougar killed showpigs, have back up pig but is light!! Don't want to give up!!
Hello all! Need some quick advice. We had two Showpigs that were born in February. They were to be shown at the end of August. I say were because a cougar came into their pen and dragged them through a tight field fence with boards. Have lived here over 12 years and know that cougars were around and...

33 days until weigh in
My son is in his third year showing pigs in FFA. His barrow is a blue butt cross and weighs 185lbs. We have 33 days until we weigh in. He has broad shoulders and nice hams. He wants to add as much weight as he can. Minimum weight is 230lb and maximum is 299lb. He is hand feeding twice a day with dai...

Lutalyse or not
I have been reading about showpig producers using Lutalyse on the "due date". What happens if given too early? I have never had a reason to use it, just curious on why. Thanks.

Re: AI or live cover
But some breeders do live cover? We would just be breeding for our kids and a small 4h group. We have the set up for housing and feeding a boar. Also, have heard that a lot of times you have to pull pigs from "show" sows and gilts. Is it because they are so tight in the back end?

AI or live cover
Hello. My family has been raising pigs for close to 20 years. We have a great market on our butcher hogs. Our sons are in FFA and 4H and states showing pigs. Our pigs are great butcher pigs, not show pigs. We would like to start breeding showpigs for our boys. We have always live covered. Why don't ...
