Stubborn Barrow HELP!!!
Hi! My barrow is incredibly stubborn and WILL NOT walk without another pig around! He walks amazing when there is another pig but the minute you try to walk him alone he is an utter nightmare. He squeals like crazy and won’t respond to the whip at all. I know that I need him to walk well alone but I...

Re: Pig pen
A good way to keep your pig pen clean if they are on dirt is to regularly scoop poop to keep it from accumulating and becoming a huge job. However, if you’d like to keep them off of the dirt, I recommend keeping them on cement with shavings!

Re: Heart Girth
Honestly, I would just try to get access to a scale. I tried formulas a couple of years ago to estimate my barrow’s weight and once we gained access to a scale, we weighed him and discovered that we were WAY off, like 50 lbs. off. So if you can use a scale somehow, that is the most accurate I have f...

Super Stubborn Barrows! Help!!
I have two barrows that absolutely hate to be apart. Every time I take one out of the barn (if I can even get them out of their stalls) he will squeal loudly, not respond to the whip no matter what, and just hopelessly try to get back into the barn while the other one also squeals like crazy. I am a...

Re: Swollen Hocks
We had this problem with a duroc barrow a couple of years ago. With ours, it was caused by the pig growing to fast and too big for his frame causing early arthritis in the hocks it was also probably due to faulty genetics too. Not a cure, but the best thing to do is to keep the hog moving and use eq...

Re: Help
I had a similar problem with a show pig last year. I noticed that my barrows was limping after a walk one day after a walk. I figured that he’d just injured himself and that after a day or two of rest he would be back to normal. It ended up getting worse and worse to the point where he wouldn’t put ...

Re: Stubborn Pig
I have the same problem with my barrows! They are extremely stubborn and just don’t seem to listen! They hate being apart but seem to walk great when in a group but I know they must learn to walk separate. It’s absolutely exhausting and extremely frustrating just getting them out of the barn, much l...
