Re: Yahtzee offspring?

We used him for spring pigs. They turned out to be really nice hogs. Good look, good shape, needed more bone and foot size, but overall I liked them and they sold well.

Anyone seen him? What are your opinions? Plan on using him on our foundation sow. She's done quite well in the past with Bone Collector and Bone Thug. Did not want to venture out too much, but wanted to try something a little different as she is getting pretty old. Any opinions appreciated.

For those who have used him. What did you think? How did the pigs feed out?

Had a litter out of Off the Hook (PSSS) las year that were packed full of muscle and had good wheels for chesters. Very consistent litter. Had the champion market OPB at the Rio Grande Valley livestock show in 2009 and a reserve champion breeding gilt. If we would have entered both in the market sh...

Very good. The gilts seem to be better than the boars, but the litters are gilt rich, so the odds may have just gotten to us. They are more moderate in their size than some other litters out of the same sows and seem to have a lot of muscle, or at least show potential to have a lot of muscle.

<t>All three are related. Not sure of the breeding on the oldest sow, and the other two are her daughters out of B&B. Had some red in an M&M litter on the old sow three seasons ago. One of the others had no red when bred to M&M. This time we used Special Reserve and got red in every litt...

That is what I figured, too. I've had one litter in the past have red hair and it was out of M&M. This season I bred three sows to another very popular boar and had red in all three litters. The are awfully nice pigs, but no one will buy them because they won't classify.

<t>The purebred and showpig industry goes through these cycles of changing types. A hog man that has been in the business for a while probably knows that these "extremes" are not the "right kind" but has certainly seen the hills and valleys we go through in this industry. My dad used to gripe about ...
