Growth too fast?
I recently picked up a few barrows for a upcoming show. One of them is really growing at a rapid pace. He is 10 weeks and 4 days old and already 105 pounds. He was the largest of the litter from the start. The other barrow that is a litter mate is only 77 pounds but was one of the smaller of the lit...

Re: Very Hard & tight muscled cross
Something to try might be swithching him from a powdered fat such as MoorFat to a liquid fat supplement. I prefer to use a product called Dyne. It comes in a liquid carmel like state and I like to tone it down by filling the bottom of a water bottle with it(maybe 1/4") then filling the rest of...

Re: Paylean effects
It definitely effected the attitude of our barrow this year. He was already cranky before but he got really bad. About 4 days off before the show made him much better. It didn't effect our gilt at all. We didn't have any trouble with either having dry, cracked hoofs but I have heard it can cause that.

Re: need feeding advice
I do not know anything about Linders feed or Vitamin P so I cannot help you there, sorry. I do know that a 58 lb. pig will only eat about 5% of their body weight so around 3 pounds per day. 4 pounds may be just too much. Are you free feeding or hand feeding? We have had success with hand feeding and...

Re: Mats in pens
We use a 4X6 stall mat under the shavings in our pen at show. It helps with clean up afterwards and helps keep them from rooting on the dirt floor since they are used to concrete at home. We also use a 4X6 mat at home under a 4X6 box we have made for their sleeping area. This way we try to keep shav...

Yes the hose is turned down so that the pressure isn't very high. I'll try to post a picture here. In a funny frustration moment that I'm sure we have all experienced this was the picture I captured yesterday.

Tips for continuous waterer
I have purchased the nipple and adapter to hook up directly to our hose but I'm looking for suggestions to attach the nipple to the fence and get it at the correct angle for the pigs. Right now I have the hose, adapter and nipple pushed through a 2 inch PVC elbow to give it a bend that is attached t...
