Re: Adding oxytocin to semen for better conception?
I have also done this with good success. Originally was presented at a breeders workshop by a production facility vet. He recommended 1/2 ML in the rod for AI.

Paylean Replacement
I just saw that the State of Ohio is now outlawing the use of Paylean in market hogs. Does Purina/HSC have a product coming out that isn't based on the banned ractopamine hydrochloride? Hoping the answer is "Yes" we're all over this.

Paylean Labels
Just a quick question, my daughter picked up a bucket of Paylean pre mix at our local Wilco. the bucket has a Blue Paylean Label and is marked Paylean 900. All of our other buckets of Payelean have been labeled with green labels and were simply marked paylean. Have we gotten ahold of an old bucket o...

Re: Half and half oats?
Once our show pigs reach 150 pounds we transition them onto a rolled oat supplement to their feed ration, so "in addition to" would be an accurate description. I like the digestive effect of feeding oats through 250 pounds and I think it helps to stimulate their appetite and keep them full...

Trying out Moorman's Showtec feeds
We decided to try out a August Fair Barrow on the Moorman Showtec line of feeds. I've not been able ot find nearly as much information on feeding strategies and plans as I am used to with HSC and other brands. Does anyone have a good site for info on feeding Showtec or any good plans that have worke...

Re: Big shows in Washington state
We have the winter season of shows and expos, Moses Lake and the North Central WA Expo, Puyallp and the Wa State Spring fair, Spokane and the Eastern WA Livestock Expo, then in the early summer Toppendish, Evergreen State Fair, Puget Sound Fair, and The WA State Fair in the fall. Not much for Jackpo...

KGB do you foresee any changes to feeding regimens and programs with the new non medicated Purina HSC?

Re: Inexpensive way to add fat to feed.
I have also had great results with Heavy Weight supplement. In order to stretch it and reduce some costs for FFA kids I mix break it down with a 1/3 mix of bulk pancake flour. It brings my price per pound for the supplement down from 1.53 to 1.19. It accounts for a savings of just over 35.00 on the ...

Re: 42 Days and Need Some Cover
Thank you sir, quick clarification , not rolled oats but whole oats. Not sure if that will matter too much but we've always used oats when holding and they do not seem to digest or retain them.
I will certainly give this a try.

Re: 42 Days and Need Some Cover
After a full week we weighed to check progress. The above diet brought us a little closer to 2.5 PPD, and a total gain of 17.3 pounds. Now looking at 248 of 290 pounds with 35 days remaining, 1.2 PPD estimated. Muscled sustainment is good, no measureable loss of form or shape. Cover is starting to f...

42 Days and Need Some Cover
Please wade in... I adapted this diet from the Purina public sources. One of this years crop is 42 days out from the WA State Fair. Typical bulging muscle pedigree and its a challenge to get the muscle to stop and the cover to start. Will plan on Paylean in the last 21 if needed to bring out the pop...

Protein versus Lysine
What is the best ratio of lysine to protein in a show pig feed? I know the subtle changes in Lysine content in HSC feeds isn't accidental. With 18% protein lysine is 1.1% but with 30% protein the lysine is 2.8%. Obviously the formula is changing based on the protein content. Is there a basic formula...

Tornado, when you say the pig is eating a 1/2 pound of fat, what are you feeding?
