Re: What happened???????
Send in some of your corn and test for zearalenone. I'll bet you find the culprit.

Re: Moldy Corn Stalk Bedding
Given the wet fall the mycotoxin load is pretty high so I'd avoid visible mold in corn or corn stalks.

Re: Eartags for sows?
Since you will have to put a PIN tag in them eventually it might be a good idea to use them for your management tag rather than just sticking one in their ear when you cull them. The Allfllex integration tag is as good as any sow tag but you're correct retention is always an issue with sows.

Re: Sores on Back - tiger striped
Dippity pig isn't really a thing. It's a cute name that some of the pet pig people decided to use to describe the symptom of pigs dipping their back in response to pain. The lesions are from bacteria that proliferate after an insult to the skin. The bugs we grow out of these are the same or similar ...

Re: Not converting feed
It is about impossible for a pig to eat 6 lbs of feed a day and gain 3 lbs a week. Sometimes if you happen to weigh one full and then empty a week later you can get some goofy deals like this on a one off weight but I'd bet by the time you weigh her again she'll be more on target. Make sure your sca...

You certainly want to avoid PRRS. But any of the killed products including whichever PLE vaccine you choose are fine to give bred sows.

Re: Door wind block
We use mud flaps but conveyor belt is more durable. We're just out of it for now. We have an old hog house we keep some sows in and made the door frame with 1/4 inch steel and welded 4 bolts to the frame to go through holes in the mud flaps and then have a piece of flat steel that holds the whole th...

Re: Farrowsure Gold Timing..Dr. Amy? Hogdoc?
Farrowsure Gold is a pre breeding not a pre farrowing vaccine. You can administer it when it arrives and again in 21 days regardless of the timing of the gilts service.
Pre farrow vaccine like Litterguard LTC should be administered at 5 and 2 weeks before gilts are due to farrow.

Re: 50-150 ib feed mixer
Mixing pellets and ground feed is difficult because of the particle size difference. You might be better off running the pellet through the mill to make essentially a crumble before mixing the two together. Or get the meal or pelleted versions of the two feeds you are trying to mix.

Re: Humpback pig
If this is a heavy muscled pig coming off starter feed the move to grower and finisher rations usually solves the problem. Some need sow feed and reducing intake for a bit to let them grow into themselves.

I think we are moving pretty close to the middle now. When we consistently hear reasons that include the word lean as a positive trait we'll be right in the middle of the pendulum swing.

There is a link but I wrote this back in 2012 and more than a few things have changed. For one there isn't much available as far as rhinitis vaccines so a negative breeding herd is your best bet there.

Yes you just have to take the omeprazole out and rely on antacids. But to be effective antacids alone have to be given frequently. (Every couple hours)
