Supplement Help

Hi all, I wanted to contact everyone to see if anyone has any feeding advice for my pigs? They are both technically cross breeds but will qualify for a York and Hamp. They will go to auction - weigh-in is July 1. The minimum and maximum weights are 210-280. Both of them are on free feed Show-Rite 15...

Next Level Show Pig Camp

I have a question about the Next Level Show Pig Camp... Do they provide food, a place to sleep, etc.? Or do you go to the camp and get yourself a hotel, food, etc.?

Swine Presentation

Hi, I'm doing a presentation on artificial insemination for 4-H... I was thinking it would be important to go over the female pig's reproductive tract anatomy, but I feel like people will laugh when I name the parts of it, and I'll be super embarrassed. Any advice? Should I go over the anatomy, or n...

hard judge or asking questions?

How do you know when a judge is trying to cut you off or if he's trying to come up to you to ask you questions?

Best/preferred pig feed?

What pig feed brand do you like the best/have the most success with? I am going to raise a pig starting at 50 lbs. to market weight in a few months.

only 2-3 piglets

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knows of a diagnosis of why a sow would only have 2-3 piglets? There's a sow I know of that only has had 2-3 piglets every time she was bred (she was bred and farrowed 3 or 4 times).

Feeding Supplements

Is it necessary to feed your pig supplements? If so, what do you normally recommend? If not, why?

Re: Pig Training

Take him out of the pen. I won 1st place Showmanship in my age division this past year - it was my first year! I taught myself how to do it - I read MANY articles and watched tons of videos of showmanship. I started training my pig the second day I got her (too early). Wait 2 weeks to take him out o...

Is there a list of the best show pig breeders in the USA or does anyone know the best breeders? Are there any breeders with a significant amount of winners in the US?

Re: Two gilts, one barrow...fighting

If the pigs were just put together today or a few days ago, they're going to fight. When my friend and I got two together, we put vaporub on their snouts, but it would still be inevitable that they would fight. And they did. They are usually best friends with each other after fighting. Our two pigs ...

Gilt Breeding

Hi - I am breeding my york gilt from this past year. She was intended to be a market hog, but I wanted to breed her and a local breeder wanted to breed her too. Her pigs need to be ready for a mid/late-June fair next year. They would need to be born in early January or late December I'm guessing. Ho...
