<t>HogDoc,<br/> <br/> So if I understand you correctly, since there is less waste, more is going to the hog for growth? Right now I get ground feed 500 pounds for roughly 100 dollars. So 50 lbs for 10 dollars, yet 50 pounds of Honor for example is roughly 25 dollars or more. So even though I sholvin...

mixed grain vs. pellet grain feeding
<t>I know that 50 lbs of pellets cost me more than 50 lb of ground/ mixed grain at the feed elevator. So the question that may make the difference for me is how long 50 lbs of pellets will last on a hog, in comparison to the same 50 lbs of ground/ mixed grain. <br/> Is there any other benefits that ...

Using cake mix
I have read articles on using cake mix in feed because it expands. For those who have tried it, how much do you feed, and does it work similar to some of the expansion foods on the market? Any cake mix better than another?

Prefarrow Shield® 9 - 10 days out?
<t>I have been waiting on health records from a breeder where I got my preg gilt, but to no avail, and Prefarrow Shield® 9 is recommended at 5 and 2 weeks. I am 10 days from farrowing, so can I still give the Prefarrow Shield® 9? Not sure if she got her first shot, so this may be it. Will it hurt th...

Perfect Game
<t>I just had a litter this morning 1/1/2011 from Perfect Game from LVS. I bred him to a large boned Duroc female. So far I am very pleased. This is the first litter for this female and she produced 11 - 3 male and 8 females. Three of them are thick pigs, large rib cage, very sturdy pigs with good d...

Fetal doppler for humans work on swine?
Out of curiousity does a Fetal Doppler used for measuring or finding heartbeats of babies work on swine? I know that the preg-tone looks for amniotic fluid build-up thus a preg sow. Would fetal dopplers find heartbeats of a litter? Would it be worth trying?

Wine coolers
<r>I bought the following wine cooler at sears outlet for 50 dollars, it has digital temperature gadge and a push button interior LED light. It is very quiet. My basement gets down to 65 degrees, so I keep this down there, and take the seman down to 62 degrees. I also keep a thermometer inside the u...

Mucus and breeding timing.
<t>I have a Duroc gilt that I am banging my head against the wall with. She has shown mucus on regular cycle on Aug 17, Sept 7, and Sept 28. She is slightly swollen two days before each of these mucus sessions, on the the last two cycles she is no longer swollen within two days after the mucus. Yet,...
