Re: Opinions...supplements?? Pics

I would. My pigs will nose through the ground feed to get to the pellets. You could try crushing it so that it mixes correctly. Make sure you measure it out while still in pellet form and then crush. If it is already crushed, it will be concentrated and you can easily overfeed. Good luck.

Re: Troubles with Gilt

Sounds like you are still at square one. If the pen is pig enough to work her in it, try doing that. Another thing to try is sitting in the pen with her for an hour or so a day. This may make her calmer when you are around her. Put a marshmallow at the end of your whip to coax her to walk. If you ha...

Re: easy going show pig?

Sullivan's also has a calming liquid. I have been curious about calming products for pigs but at my county fair, no one uses them. If it is Sullivan's it will be good, how good will depend on the product.

Re: Barrow won't cooperate

One thing I wish I had when I had this issue with my gilt is a new place to walk them. Sometimes a new place will get them to walk slowly as they do not know what the place is. Because of this, you can now train the pig correctly. I know its cold out, but this could be an option depending on where y...

If Sunglo is in your area, S'more Fill is a great feed supplement. It is mostly oats and marshmallows which helps with weight gain and with getting them to eat. Don't know how much you want to spend on the pig, but it may help. Good Luck.

Re: Showmanship Judges

Couldn't find anything on what he likes, but I have found that he is a show pig breeder. Typed his name into google and swine after his name was the first thing that came up. With this, I can tell he must have a big operation going, more that likely a largely recognized breeder also. The first year ...

Re: When is too late to switch feed?

S'more Fill from Sunglo works well for filling out pigs. My breeder used it and had a 240# pig that was reserve champ at a very competitive show. He couldn't get his pigs to eat either. S'more fill has marshmallows that helps to both fill out the pig but also gets them to eat more. Don't know if its...

Re: Feed Talk

My questions would be is it sick, isolated, or stressed. Maybe just spending time with the pigs by sitting in the pen would help a lot. Make sure the feed is also good yet, no mold or anything in it. If you still can't get them to eat, put some flavoring in the feed. Cake mix or marshmallows works g...

Since it is Christmas season, buy her some as a Christmas gift and take the old ones for your pigs. If not, look around the barn. You will find something. Good luck and Merry Christmas!

Re: Videos added! Gilt walking bow legged, toeing in on rear

I hate to tell you this, but feeding paylean would not be a good choice. She may not walk any worse, but I have seen some with bad structure in a lot of pain because their structure could not handle the extra weight from the muscle. Then they don't walk from the pain, and you have bigger issues. Als...

Re: Stubborn pig won’t walk

my gilt did the same exact thing last summer. I kept working with her and she walked somewhat decently at fair. The key is to not get frustrated. Pigs can pick up on your frustration and be a bully to you in a sense. When the pig runs back to the barn, stay calm and turn it away to the pasture again...

Sullivan's Restore and Moormans Show Prep

I was curious if anyone has used Restore or Show Prep with their pigs. If so, did you get the results you expected? I know Restore is a fairly new product, but I just thought I would ask to see if anyone likes these before I spend the money on it. Happy Thanksgiving!

Re: Car rides

Keep working with the pig. Try putting marshmallows or cake mix on the ramp and in the trailer. Once the pig gets a little better with it, give it a marshmallow as a reward when it is in the trailer. The trick is to not get frustrated and keep working with it right up to show. Good luck.

I get a pure york/pure hamp, also know as bluebutt. They are born at the end of January and the show is late August. Have always made weight. That would come out to seven months old. i would not go with the April pigs
