Re: PBG open house berks
Just had a Monopoly litter. They were the right size, right color, very active in the crate, tall on their front end, spread to their shoulders, nice round shape going through their center...got 2 barrows and 6 (count them...6) gilts. Make for nice Jr breeding shows. They are just 1 week old and I'm...

PBG open house berks
How much color does Whatever It Takes have on his right side, rear end, under belly? What he has on his left is almost too much for me. Also if you can figure his teat line count. Thx. Diane

Re: Short cords
Well she is older and a big long momma. So I think I will have shorter intervals with her. She isn't hard to get into and had plenty of room to work with. Thx Chopster.

Re: Short cords
What makes the cord separate too soon? Is there something I can do to change/alter this pattern once it starts in a farrowing episode?

Re: Clean up neck area
A product called "Jowl Reducer" that is a paste is made for a short burst couple of weeks before show and right on the neck/jowl area.

Don't understand...had my sow farrow 11 piglets. 8 live, 3 dead. She did it on her own. Didn't palpate. I know this girl. You can roll a bowling ball through her. Big/wide inside. A ton of room to work with. The 3 dead piglets were born with their umbilical cord already separated with only about a 1...

Not even mentioned at the TPPA conference. I am in the dark about this. Is this a good thing? Sure sounds good to me and the piglets with all the shots they have to get the first 3-5 weeks. Antibiotics interfere with their efficacy? Got a reference on this/article for me to read in all my spare time?

Re: Butchering older sow
The person actually comes to our farm to pick them up and I get $100. Not a lot, but it helps me work through my sows and not hesitate or have to face logistical issues when I know I have to cull a sow. It is a small business they have so it is a win/win.

I really just could not skinny up one of my berk gilts. She has been on 4 lbs/day since 14 Feb. Her score is probably 2.75-3.0. She does have a nice tilt downward with her vulva. She does have a lot of width...true chest floor. She is due to farrow this Fri/Sat. Not letting her go past day 115. Earl...

Re: Am I overreacting?
I would say that Unannounced and Unaccompanied are 2 different things. They can come when they want, but they cannot enter into barns without talking to the person whose barn it is without complying with their specific biosecurity measures. This is clearly 2 different issues. I would have that perso...

I spoke to a lady that answered the phone at Lindners. She got the "sheet of paper" will all of the changes noted on it. Went back to the sheet I was taking notes on as she was talking..this is what I wrote down and think I took accurate notes. Of course....they have the "subject to c...

I'm at home most of the time during the day so they get 3 divided feeds and all feeds are generously wet slopped and I use LIndner's Priority One for summer litters.

Re: farrowing in the heat
They need to be upper 90's and then gradually decrease in temp requirements as they grow. So during the day and when it gets up to 95, I turn off the lamp and heating pad. At night I turned it on again because it is in the 80's and I have a very open barn.
