Re: beet pulp to get width in rib area
Biggest thing for me on this gilt is the need to soften her muscle pattern - the added rib and center will follow in after that. Get a gallon of Essential Feeds Soft Silk and provide at 4 oz. per day until show. This is a 99% crude fat cherry flavored oil that will soften and mellow one in a hurry.

Re: Holding Hog
I know this is a bit late for your current situation, but for future reference. Essential Feeds makes a product called Cruise Control which is designed to hold a hog. 2 pounds of feed and 2 pounds of Cruise per day (1 pound of each morning and night) will equal 1 pound per day gain. The product is u...

Re: TOO MUCH FAT. 30 days till weigh in.
Essential Feeds Makes a high protein, high lysine product called Time 2 Tune that is very effective for burning excess cover and adding more definition of shape. 1 pound per day for a couple weeks should garner significant results.

Re: Increasing ham size without paylean?
As mentioned, a higher protein feed and some show day electrolytes could help. However there is nothing like PayLean to add more shape behind. Don't be afraid to include it as long as you are also providing a well rounded joint / hoof care supplement. In my experience (even on breeding gilts that yo...

Re: Adding sugar
Keep it in as long as you need to keep the hog on feed - it won't hurt them. Even on the pickiest eaters I've almost always had great luck with adding a little brown sugar, always keep some in the showbox.

Re: Harder Center body?
If the hog is too lean and needs more cover (needs a "softer look,") I would recommend Soft Silk from Essential Feeds. It is a 99% crude fat liquid soybean oil that is cherry flavored to promote palatability and intake. 2-4 oz. per day for 2 weeks will soften the hog greatly in terms of me...

Re: How to feed barrow between shows
If you can, try to find a bucket of Time 2 Tune made by Essential Feeds tomorrow. Feed at 1-1.5 pounds per day until show Friday along with the 9 gram level of Paylean. It is a High Protein and Lysine, Low Fat product that will burn fat and firm the hog up in a hurry - you will see results after a f...

Re: Need to add more top and gut
Wide Open from Essential Feeds is a perfect product for this description. It is a high protein, fiber-based product designed to open up the body cavity to help build top and center rib. It also promotes normal weight gain and does not slow gain at all. Wide Open can be fed at 1-1.5 pounds per day in...

Re: Soften up gilt
I'll echo a few things that have been mentioned - a lower protein, higher fat feed along with fiber and fat supplements. In terms of products made by Essential Feeds, there are a few options for this scenario. 5-Br Fat is a fiber based product that contains 12% fiber and 50% fat. A very effective du...

Re: Need help gaining weight FAST!!!
If it were me, I would get a case of Double Dip from Essential Feeds (12 - 1 lb packets). Mix about 1/4 of a packet in with this hog's ration each feeding (I would be feeding wet or slopped for sure) and stir in evenly. This product creates a sweet flavor that can be irresistible for the hogs and wi...

Re: Melatonin or Pig Calm
I might recommend the Composure product from Essential Feeds. It is a paste (comes in a small tube) that is all natural. Calms through three different substances - tryptophan (the stuff in turkey that makes you tired), magnesium, and thiamine. 1 tube will equal three doses for a hog and a tube runs ...

Re: Need rib dimension
First things first just to check - clean fresh dry bedding, constant access to cold fresh water, up to date on worming the hogs. Just a few crucial basics for getting that final push. Pig 1 - would have the pig on a 16% protein feed with a 5-7% fat if you don't already. In terms of additives - I wou...
