Re: Adjusting to hand feeding
Depends on how much she weighs and how much you are trying to get her to eat. Gilts are different eaters than barrows. Gilts tend to be better grazers (meaning that they like to eat multiple times a day) where barrows tend to be good hand feeders (meaning that they will eat quickly and clean up thei...

Re: Fat vs Protein vs Lysine
I'll take a stab at this one. Lysine is the most limiting Amino Acid in swine. So when the diet is limited in Lysine, the pig won't convert protein to muscle. Therefore, in a little pig, their feed intake is much less plus their muscle and frame growth is at a very high % of their weight gain, there...

Kiss My Socks pigs are built right at the ground. Not only sound, but heavy structured and plenty of length of cannon bone to make the "trendy" ones.

Re: Moorman's, Purina, or Sunglo?????
Well, of the 3 options you listed, Showtec and Sunglo are the two complete feeds we feed most often. We’ve also started using Linder. Sunglo is the least expensive here, so G18 is probably our most used each year. However, I did feed a lot of Showtec 18007 and 18241 this past season. The 18241 feed ...

I asked the same question to Doug Loof about a week ago and he said the following:
No Way - PBG
Needle Trax - Showtime Sires
Junksberry - Sugar Creek Genetics
Never Say Never - Upperhand
No Doubt - Loof

Re: What will 2018 show pigs look like?
Study the world record setting York boar from STC last week and you will know the direction we are headed. He is the example the breeders are looking to produce. My opinion is to stay in the middle and they will be back to you in about 3 or 4 years! Plus you will still be able to sell those pigs eve...

Why don't you collect your boars and check it under the microscope to make sure they aren't shooting blanks? That would be the first thing I would check off the list of possible issues. That's usually the primary one!

Re: raise the stakes
Used him on a really good designed, top of the middle of the road frame size Bone N' Hand gilt that was just average in her muscle pattern. Early March litter and they have grown very well. As far as an analysis of the pigs, he generated a ton of muscle in them and he shortened them up some as well....

It's a typical type conference. (Actually one on Steroids!) there are plenty that don't make the sale. depending on the breed, they go 6 deep in class that make the sale. Many of the gilts and boars that don't make the sale get sold before they go home. Also, there are some real bargains in the sale...

Re: Best Hamp Program?
You need to check out Joe Lancaster in Oklahoma. I see Cain Super Sires already mentioned, but if you dig into Cain's genetics, you will find a large volume of Lancaster bloodlines in there. Probably one of the more well kept secret Hampshire places in the country.

Check out the new edition at Triple B Sires. They call him Cottonwood. He is out of Tree Trunx and out of Triple B's legendary I Got It daughter. I think the pics of him are only on Facebook as of right now. Here are a couple of him. https://scontent-iad3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t31.0-8/16300067_1778848815...

Re: Used Equipment prices ??
Depends on what your after and how many other people are looking for the same thing. I've bought several things used (mainly hog feeders, cup waters and crates) and have saved a ton. I think making sure you know what something costs new will help you not overpay. Pig sales and semen prices are the s...

Re: Sunglo s-811 vs. Exploded
I know this is most likely well after the fact now, but we feed Sunglo and I am all-in on 811. It's not because of the paylean. I can get paylean into one from several sources. It's the formulation of the feed. It is pretty much the 803 pig starter without the medication. Our barrows respond extreme...
